Karbon MCP

Karbon · Practice Management

MCP ServerVendor

Karbon's first-party MCP server connects a firm's Karbon account (practice management for accounting firms, bookkeepers and professional services teams) to AI agents. Karbon documents the server in its own machine-readable site file and signs agents in with OAuth rather than an API key, so an assistant can work with the firm's clients, engagements, time and billing data inside one account.

Provides one system's data and actions. Reads and writes inside a single product of record; it can act, but only within its own walls. More on System servers → All seven roles →

Caveats

  • Connection details independently verified on October 26, 2026: the endpoint responds and rejects unauthenticated calls with an OAuth bearer-token challenge, and its own protected-resource metadata names https://identity.karbonhq.com/ as the authorization server with mcp:public:read and mcp:public:write scopes.
  • Not read-only. The server advertises a write scope, so a connected agent can change firm records; keep client-side approval prompts on and start with the read scope.
  • No public tool list, install command or developer documentation was found. Karbon states no self-provisioned free trial exists, so evaluating the server needs a demo or sales contact.
  • A separate community-built Karbon server exists on GitHub (https://github.com/Mad-Man-Dan/karbon-mcp-server, MIT, described by its author as an early release and not affiliated with Karbon). This listing is the first-party endpoint, not that project.
  • Adjacent to wealth management rather than advisor-specific: Karbon serves accounting, bookkeeping and professional services firms.
  • Start with read-only scopes and keep client-side approval prompts on until the connection is proven.

How to connect Karbon MCP

Step 1

Remote server: paste a URL

Karbon MCP publishes a remote (Streamable HTTP) endpoint, so nothing is installed locally. Add it as a custom connector in Claude, ChatGPT or your IDE and paste the endpoint below.

Endpoint

https://mcp.karbonhq.com/mcp

Client config snippet

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "karbon-mcp": {
      "url": "https://mcp.karbonhq.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Step 2

Authenticate with OAuth

Your client opens a browser sign-in with the vendor. Approve only the scopes you need, and use a read-only account first when the platform offers one.

Step 3

Verify, then widen access

Restart your client, confirm the server's tools appear, and run one read-only question first. Keep client-side approval prompts on for any tool that can write, trade or send. Confirm with your firm's compliance policy before connecting systems holding client data.
