No MCP route today
Does Canopy have an MCP server?
Not yet. As of October 26, 2026 Canopy has no MCP server to connect to: it launched an external API on September 30, 2026 and says it is building an MCP server that will let assistants like Claude look up client information and complete tasks inside Canopy, but nothing has shipped.
The API is the practical route today. It reads, creates and updates clients, contacts, custom fields, tasks and client requests, alongside document creation and file organization, with write access on objects where rival platforms allow only reads. Access is plan-gated: firms on the Plus plan can connect client and contact information, and the Premium plan unlocks the full API. Canopy's developer portal is at portal.dev.canopytax.com, and the legacy external API is targeted for retirement in 2027.
Two cautions for anyone planning around the coming MCP server. The API grants write access, so an agent built on it can change firm records rather than only read them, and Canopy publishes no MCP endpoint, auth model or tool list to plan a connection against yet.
