Official server
Does Morningstar have an MCP server?
Yes. Morningstar publishes its own MCP server, documented at developer.morningstar.com, exposing analyst research, market analysis, fund holdings, portfolio X-Ray analytics, screening tools and investment data over Streamable HTTP.
Read-only scopes are the sensible starting point here even though Morningstar's own documentation is the source for this entry and has not been independently tested by this review. See https://developer.morningstar.com/direct-web-services/documentation/morningstar-ai-integrations/morningstar-mcp-server/overview for the vendor's own description of the server. This is not an endorsement of Morningstar or a claim that every tool behaves as documented.
Access requires Enterprise-tier entitlement, so what a given firm's connection actually returns depends on its Morningstar Direct or Office contract, not on the published feature list alone. Confirm with your Morningstar relationship manager which datasets, including fund holdings and X-Ray analytics, your license actually includes before an agent treats a gap as a data error.
Morningstar research and ratings are the vendor's own analysis and assumptions, not observed facts, and fund data can lag the underlying filings. Check as-of dates on anything a client sees, and keep approval prompts on even for what Morningstar documents as read access. Start with read-only scopes where supported and keep client-side approval prompts on.
