Official server
Does Slack have an MCP server?
Yes. Slack documents its own hosted MCP server with OAuth and workspace-admin approval, at https://docs.slack.dev/ai/slack-mcp-server/connect-to-claude.
Slack's own setup guide is the source for this connection claim. https://docs.slack.dev/ai/slack-mcp-server/developing also shows requested permissions including message and canvas writes. Do not assume the MCP connection is read-only simply because search is a prominent use case; confirm the scopes and approved client with your workspace administrator.
Admin approval per connecting client is a meaningful control point: a workspace's Slack admin decides which AI clients can use this server at all, which is a different trust model from a personal API key. Confirm with your workspace admin what has been approved and what it can see before assuming any assistant reaches Slack data.
Channel and message search can surface client-identifying or sensitive internal discussion, so treat this as a wide-reaching connection and start by confirming read versus any write capability before using it in client-facing work. This is a research note, not an endorsement. Start with read-only scopes where supported and keep client-side approval prompts on.
